I bought a memory card and a card reader and copied all of the files onto my memory card but i dont know where to look once i put it back into my phone. can anybody help me?!
does that mean that i have to buy a cord to connect my phone to my computer?!

You can't just copy files, you have to install them so that the phone knows where they are. You need a software suite for your phone, usually available free from the nokia website
