I'm going to Germany for a year, and I was wondering if i could get a contract for my SCH-U540 while i was there, or if I should get a pay-as-you-go phone. Thanks!

Call your provider. But remember, the power outlets are different in Europe. You might not be able to charge your phone in the first place.
