You can set a image from your phone to be the background. Also you can set a countdown to a special date. Like an anniversary, birthday, graduation, wedding etc. You can change the color of the text so it does not blend into the image. See the screenshots for the Widget looks like.
The Widget only updates the day once a day. So it will not drain your battery.
